Opera Alterna is a DC based opera company founded in 2007 by Jay D. Brock and Sarah Philippa designed to bring a fresh approach to the art form.  It is our goal to engage audiences by producing newer works in English as well as inovating classics.  We are committed to providing an alternative opera experience by focusing on the dramatic aspects of opera to create a a strong visual story that integrates in equal partnership with the music. We are also committed to casting local young artists, and presenting them to the greater DC metro area in substantial roles.  Our operas will often utilize creative staging techniques in intimate spaces to realize our mission and to provide dynamic theatrical experiences to modern audiences.
